  • What Academy opportunities are available for players?

Players have access to receive extra training through additional academies hosted by CMFSC, with two different types of academies to appeal to all levels of ability.

Boys & Girls Player Academy is open to all U5 - U13 players and focuses on individual technical development and small-sided games. The objective of our academy programs includes a personalized skill development approach, that sets out to boost and maximize each participant’s self-confidence, enjoyment, technical skills, vision, and awareness, and overall understanding of the game.

Boys & Girls Prospects Academy provides U8 - U10 Development Stream players and U11 - U12 Divisional players with an opportunity to train in a more competitive environment. Players will be emailed directly with the invite code for registration. *There are limited spaces, so an invite code does not guarantee a space.

There will be fewer registrations accepted into this year’s program to meet social gathering restrictions and limited field resources. Interested participants are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.

Players already registered in Player Academy and subsequently invited to Prospects Academy, will have the option to either transfer their registration or continue to do both programs. To transfer your registration please contact Member Services prior to registering for Prospects Academy.

  • What does PARENT/PLAYER mean?

This is a Parent & Player program so each player must have a Parent/Guardian in attendance with them to actively participate in the full session. Parents & Players will work together to learn basic soccer skills such as ball control, dribbling and passing plus there will be a focus on physical literacy (agility, balance, jumping, coordination). Siblings are not permitted to participate unless registered.

  • What happens if there is inclement weather?

If the City of Coquitlam closes the fields due to weather or safety, we will notify all Academy players via email. We will also update our website and post information on our homepage.

  • What if we can't make all the sessions?
Missed sessions will not be refunded unless a medical reason is provided.

  • What is the $20 Out-of-Club Fee?

The out of club fee is applied to players that did not participate in the CMFSC Fall/Winter 2020-2021 program. This fee covers player association fees and insurance.

  • What is your Return to Play & Safety Guide?

From the guidelines set by viaSport and BC Soccer, Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club created the following Return to Play & Safety Guide. We recommend all families carefully review the processes outlined to fully understand the measures we are taking as a club to mitigate the risks associated with returning to play. This guide is subject to change before the program starts and during the program.

  • What restrictions will be in place due to COVID-19?
The PHO orders regarding restrictions to sport have varied over the last year. These restrictions may include physically distanced activities (2m - 3m), no spectators, no contact activities, cohort groupings, etc. These restrictions are subject to change at any time. Players or parents not following set out restrictions may be removed from the program.

Before the start of the program, all registrants will be sent detailed information about programming and any COVID-19 restrictions. Further communications will be sent if changes are made.

  • What should my child wear to Academy?

All Academy attendees must wear shin-guards and cleats. Players should wear comfortable athletic clothing that is weather appropriate (shorts, t-shirt, pants, toque, gloves, etc). It is suggested to wear CMFSC branded gear if possible.

  • Will my child get to play in full-sided games?

No. The Academy setting is to work on individual skill development and small-sided games (maximum 5 per team).

*What is a small-sided game? Small sided-games are games with a small number of players on each side, for example 4 v 4 or 6 v 6. Why use small sided games?

1. Individual technical development
2. Tactical development
3. Easier decision making
4. More opportunity to solve problems that only the game presents
5. More exposure to attacking and defending situations
6. Because they are great FUN!

For more information about the Spring Small-Sided Games Series please contact Alfredo Valente. Registration is on a first come first serve basis and is limited due to field space. Please see below for more information on CMFSC Academy Programming.
