U13 Boys MSL Provincial A Cup Champions

The 2017 Provincial A Cup Champions, CMFSC Schalke, displayed tremendous effort, skill, determination and overall mastery throughout the competition. They finished first overall in the round-robin stage and continued their dominance in a finals battle that all will remember.
For a second straight day, Schalke would go into battle against a tough Kelowna United FC. Ryan Head opened the scoring in the second half with a well-placed
effort to the bottom left corner. Stefan Tent then contributed with a burst down the middle and filling the net for the second goal of the game. After
the two goals the other way, it all came down to Chase Doucette who cleaned up a rebound in front of the net and buried the game clinching and goal
with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The final whistle blew and Schalke managed to hold the opposition to a handful of trips into their defensive end while Schalke produced wave after wave of attacks. If it were not for two brilliantly struck free kicks by the opposition, the final score would not have been as close or gut wrenching. The game ended 3-2 for Schalke.
Overall, the tournament saw outstanding performances from everyone involved. Nico Porretti and Ashenafi MacKinley dominated the central defensive position, with Max Velthuijzen, Elliott Hunt and Alex Hart controlling the outside defensive responsibilities as Roko Bozic and Jesse Webb held fort in net. Ettienne Zhang created from the central midfield position while Luca Di Francesco obliterated any chance of an oppostion attack through the center of the field in a holding mid role. Leon De Greiff Meraz and Ryan Head burned paths down the outside of the field, while Aidan Walsh, Chase Doucette, Stefan Tent and Aidan Callister took turns providing fits to the oppositions defence.
This was all done without the services of Jakub Skrzeta and Andrew Matsugu, who were both forced to the sidelines with ill-timed injuries weeks before the tournament, as well as Noah Marusenko and Tait Ross who were away on family vacation. All four were instrumental in bringing us to the dance while their teammates finished things off for them.
Congratulations to Schalke!
