“Promotion to the FIFA International Referee List is an honour bestowed on Canada Soccer’s top match officials that have demonstrated the highest level of professional integrity and performance.”

Peter Montopoli, Canada Soccer General Secretary continued, “Congratulations to these 17 men and women who have all showcased themselves to be deserving of their place among the top echelon of match officials globally.”

Of these 17 appointed officials, we are pleased to highlight the 2018 addition of Erina Cho as an Assistant Referee. Erina Cho began her grassroots refereeing in Coquitlam through the Referee Development Program, established seven years ago. In 2012, Cho was bestowed with CMF's first Game Official of the Year Award, celebrating her commitment to the game, professionalism on and off the filed, and the respect received from her peers. Gaining momentum, Erina then expressed interest in the BC Soccer Referee Candidates Program, a program for referees who aspire to climb the Referees Development ladder with the aim to become a Provincial referee or higher. This intense program pushes referees to combine on-field and off-field training and education sessions, while being required to meet on a bi-weekly basis for a year. This program opened many doors for Erina as a game official and led her path to where she is today.

Outside of her game official career, Erina is an Honours Candidate, working towards her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. After completing co-op terms as a research assistant at a prosthetics clinic, and later in a biomedical engineering lab, she joined the Neuromuscular Mechanics Lab. She has an interest in amputee rehabilitation and the effects of assistive device interventions such as prostheses. Erina also is a student athlete, participating on the Track and Field team at SFU. She competes in the mile in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Congratulations to Erina on this incredible achievement and we look forward to seeing your continued future successes!
