Kevin Wingrove
Kevin Wingrove, from the U18 Bronze Impact, has been selected as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford “Player of the Month” for February 2007. His coach, Ed Dickson, notes that he could have easily nominated Kevin for November, December or January as well.
When several key players were promoted to the silver team this year, the Impact needed players to come in and fill some big boots. Luckily, the team was able to pick up Kevin, who came to the Impact from POCO.
Kevin was always at games and practices on time, or even early. This talented and hard working defender was very enthusiastic and kept the other players and coaches’ upbeat, no matter how the game was going. It was a tough season in the win and loss column, but Kevin constantly reminded his coach that we play to win of course, but we also play for the enjoyment of the game.
Kevin fit in really well with his new team, and it was a joy to coach a young man such as him. The U18 Impact coaching staff are really proud of Kevin’s contribution to the team’s efforts, and his excellent rapport with his teammates.
Respectfully submitted by,
Ed Dickson Coach U-18 boys Bronze Impact

Max MacKinnon
Max MacKinnon has been selected as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Player of Month for February 2007. Max played this season with the U7 Boys Warriers, and was nominated by his coach, Peter Carnovale. During the month of February, Max Mackinnon worked extremely hard to improve his overall soccer skills. He demonstrated a good understanding of the game and truly enjoyed his time during practices and games.
Max was always attentive and worked hard on his drills during practices, which he then used during games. Max enjoyed playing different positions and was always a team player - well liked by his teammates. Max clearly displayed his enjoyment around the game of soccer and has increased his skills and overall concept of the game. With his focus, he will be a great player and an asset on any team.
Excellent work! Job well done Max!

Tyler Ashbury
Tyler Ashbury, of the U10 Boys Dominators, has been selected as the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Player of Month for January 2007! His Coach, Domingo de Torres and Assistant Coach/Manager, Sandi Tollefson nominated Tyler for this recognition.
From the start of the season, Tyler showed tremendous effort and determination. Not only did he play hard, he was always the first one to arrive for practices and games and the last one to leave. Tyler always has encouraging words for other players and led by example through helping the coaches to clean up after practices.
Despite playing with a physical disability, Tyler continues to improve his skills and show promise. He has an uncanny ability to find players through the passing channels and goes in hard in the tackles.
Tyler’s coach writes: “If I could take all of Tyler’s positive attitude, enthusiasm and work ethic, and give it to the rest of the team, we would be unbeatable!”

Kevin Ilchuk
Kevin Ilchuk has been selected as the Coquitlam-Metro Ford “Player of the Month” for January 2007. Kevin was a member of the U12 Gold Spurs this season, and was nominated by his coaches. Kevin was new to the Spurs lineup this season but what an impression he made on both of his coaches, Tom Jamieson and Andy Ahonen, as well as the rest of his teammates!
When Kevin first joined the team he was very quiet and a bit tentative, which was understandable as most of his new teammates had already been on the team for a couple of years. While Kevin is still quiet, he does his talking with his soccer skills! Kevin is a
forward for the team and at the beginning of the season he might have felt a bit intimidated, but not anymore! He has these fantastic bursts of speed, displaying spectacular ball control and patience.
Kevin is never selfish, always looking for the pass. When he sees an opening he is gone. He accepts with a nod and a smile anything his coaches ask of him. He has come a long way with his confidence and it is paying off big time with some spectacular goals and some great crosses and assists for his teammates to score.
Kevin is well respected by his teammates for his work ethic and his determination to succeed and especially his lightning fast speed. He is very well deserving of the nomination for “Player of the Month.”Congratulations Kevin!! |

Michael Costante
The U7 Warriors and coach, Peter Carnovale, nominate Michael Costante as their Player of the Month. During the first month of the season Michael has picked up an understanding to the game of soccer. He has focused hard in learning basic skills (i.e. passing, ball control), which has helped him work hard at both ends of the soccer pitch. Michael is a real team player and always looks to ensure he is involving his teammates within the play, whether offensively or defensively, which is a key component to all team sports. He displays a hard working attitude and always has a smile on his face. A real delight to coach and if he continues to develop on the key fundamentals, Michael will truly have lots of success.

Charlotte Wishart
I coach mini girls, U10 CC5 to be exact. My name is Milan Langr, and we are the Sweet. I would like to nominate Charlotte Wishart as player of the month. Charlotte likes playing defender, she is a natural stopper with a keen sense of where to be to stop the attack. Even at this age she has demonstrated excellent awareness as when to push up and support the attack, when to stay back. She never panics under pressure and always looks for the right play, be it a pass to an open team mate, a kick up the filed to relief pressure or just simply putting the ball out of touch so the team can regroup. Charlotte is extremely coachable and she does so well because she has understood and learned what she is being coached. She extremely responsible on the field and she is our rock on defense due to her steadiness and positioning. Charlotte never complains when she is substituted even though she could stay out on the field the whole game. She plays with an enjoyment that is obvious from the ever present smile on her face. She has shown tremendous improvement from our first game to present and every week she shows that her ball control and shooting skills have improved. She is a very reliable player deserving of recognition for her excellent attitude and hard work during game and practices.

Michael Celio
Coaches Tom Jamieson and Andy Ahonen of the U12 gold Spurs would like to nominate Michael Celio for October’s player of the month. This is Michael’s third season with the Spurs, the first two seasons he played as a midfielder for the team. This season his coaches asked him to help them on the back line. Michael has been an absolute stand out on the defensive line. His speed, agility, determination, vision as well as one heck of a kick has helped the Spurs tremendously. Michael never blinked an eye when he was asked to move positions he just went out on the field and did more than anyone could ask of him. Recently during a Thanksgiving tournament the team’s goalie was not able to play and once again Michael stepped up and took on the position of goalie for the team, putting in an outstanding performance. During the tournament he did get some playing time out on the field and scored a brilliant goal from a free kick. Michael has tremendous talent but most of all sheer determination which his teammates and coaches cannot help but admire. Michael is very deserving of the nomination of player of the month. Congratulations Michael!! |
Michelle Lehmann
I would like to nominate Michelle Lehmann as the player of the month for the U 15 Silver A Coquitlam Heat . Michelle is a quiet shy type of a player who is very well liked and respected by her team mates. She turns up to every game and practice with a smile on her face and is ready to give it her all. Michelle is a natural leader on the field and is outstanding in her position of central midfield . When asked she will play any position on the field and gives it everything she has. Michelle has the ability to put the other teams better players off their game with her hard checking game and doesn't back away from any situation. Michelle has already scored 5 goals in pre season tournaments and exhibition games . She has a keen sense of field awareness, setting up plays and long passes to the forwards. Michelle has helped the team get off to a great start with 2 wins in the league. Michelle is a pleasure to coach . Thanks! Rob Chuter, Coach

Mathew Santema
The coaches of the U12 Silver Boys Arsenal would like to nominate Mathew Santema as our Player of the Month for September 2006. Mathew’s attitude towards the game of soccer, his team-mates and his coaches is always positive. His work ethic on the field is second to none! Mathew is consistently the hardest working player on the field, at games as well as at practices. Mathew is very motivated in completing pre-game warm-up and stretching. He always reminds others about the importance of stretching and completing the pre-game warm up together, as a team. Mathew is a natural leader, by example, and he definitely sets the bar high. Mathew is a pleasure to coach. He never has to be reminded about the “little things” that are necessary parts of practice, preparation for a game and playing in a game. Mathew has way more assists than goals, which also demonstrates his unselfishness on the field. His enthusiasm and his smile are definitely infectious!
The Arsenal are off to a great start this year…undefeated in League play so far, and Mathew Santema has been a very big part of the success in games played as well as in the positive dynamics and growth that continues with the entire team!

Paige Adams
The Coquitlam City Wild U18 Metro Girls would like to nominate Paige Adams as Coquitlam City Soccer's first Player of the Month for 2006-07 season. Paige has had a tremendous summer soccer experience. First, she led her team - the Wild - to their fourth consecutive Provincial Cup Championship. Then she scored two goals to lead the Whitecaps Reserves to a 4-2 PCSL Championship win over the Tri-Cities Xtreme. The following weekend she played (not just sat on the bench, but played!) for the Whitecaps women as they captured the 2006 W-League Championship. Then she was off to Russia where she represented Canada in the U20 World Cup. While Canada did not fair as well as everyone hoped, Paige was the youngest player on the Canadian roster, and one of the youngest in the whole tournament, and she performed very well to kickoff what should be a very rewarding international career. And to top it off, Paige was awarded the Domenic Mobilio Trophy as tournament MVP in the Coquitlam City Metro-Ford Labour Day Tournament, a significant honour for Paige, as Domenic was a huge supporter of hers. Despite these successes and honours, Paige continues to be a huge part of her Coquitlam City team, as a player, leader and friend. She not only brings tremendous skill to the soccer pitch, but big-time effort and a passion for the game that is contagious. Paige Adams has been a tremendous representative for Coquitlam City Soccer, and will continue to be so, and the entire Wild family - players and coaches - is proud to call her one of our own. |
