Field Closure Information
If the City closes fields, they will typically do it by 3:00pm on Friday. There may be some instances where the club will decide to close the fields on
Friday, when the city calls for user discretion. The intent is to ensure long term play of the fields, grass in particular. There may also be times
when we need to cancel first thing in the morning when the weather changes overnight. We will attempt to do that by 8am so that gives you time to cancel
with your team and opponent.
The link to the city site for field closures is: http://www.coquitlam.ca/parks-recreation-and-culture/sport-and-recreation/sports-facilities/outdoors/sports-fields.aspx.
In the event that the City or club closes fields, teams do not need to do anything with regards to officials as we will do it as a mass closure and notify
Turf fields generally remain open except in the cases of frozen ground or snow. Grass fields are deemed unplayable if any of the following are present:
(a) standing water anywhere on the playing surface; (b) frozen pitch; (c) snow.
The status of our home fields can be found on this page (check each tab for the status per field).
The referee may also cancel your game before kickoff. Referees are not permitted to allow games to be played on fields that are unplayable. Please do not
try to convince an official to play on an unplayable field. It's a player safety issue, and also could permanently damage the field.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF A REF CANCELS THE GAME, DO NOT TRY TO CONVINCE THEM OTHERWISE. THEY HAVE THE FINAL SAY.
SHOULD THE REFEREE OR YOU CANCEL YOUR GAME AT THE FIELD, PLEASE PAY THE OFFICIAL(S) THEIR FEES ACCORDINGLY.
Also, if a field is closed or otherwise unplayable for your game, it is also unplayable for a scrimmage or practice. Stay off the field!
During the week with training, coaches should use common sense for practicing. Be aware that lightning or debris caused by wind (ie trees/branches/power
lines) can be hazardous at the local fields. Power outages can cause the lighting at fields to go out leaving some of these locations in a complete
blackout which is unsafe as well. If any of these situations are in play, please cancel your practice. In the end player safety is of paramount importance.
In situations where the weather turns the day of the game, teams are encouraged to check the fields ahead of time. If any of the above conditions are present,
you can cancel the game. Notify your opponent and the appropriate club contact to cancel the referee. (Do not email them.) Please provide age group,
field and team name.
