Sara played youth soccer for Coquitlam United & Coquitlam City Soccer. She went on to play on Provincial teams, to SFU where she won All American honours for 4 years, as well as a National Championship. Sara was a member of the U/20 National team and then the Canadian National team where she played in the 1999 World Cup. From 2001 to 2005 she played for the Vancouver Whitecaps and was a part of the 2004 Championship team which was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
