A Year In Review – A Look at Coquitlam Metro-Fords Inaugural Season in the Super Y-League

    Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Coquitlam, BC - Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club wrapped up its inaugural season in the Super Y-League this past weekend.   The Pacific Northwest division has provided an exciting first season and tough competition for Coquitlam Metro-Ford’s first season in the Y-League.

The club operates and manages eight teams, ranging from U13 to U16 boys and girls. As with all of the Super Y-League teams, the ultimate goal is to earn a bid to Florida to compete in the 11th Annual Super Y-League North American Finals.  All of the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Y-League teams were competitive in their matches.
The U13 girls (7-3-2) proved to be our most successful girl’s team, finishing second in the league and earning them a berth at Nationals.

Early on, the U14 boys proved to be the club’s most successful team.  With their 11-0-1 record, they had already clenched a spot for the finals in Florida a couple of weeks before the season ended.  The club is extremely pleased to have two teams represent Coquitlam Metro-Ford in Florida for their opening season.

Over the course of the season, the Super Y-League coaches have seen a tremendous improvement in their players.  Sara Maglio, Technical Director, added, "The opportunity for our club to join the Y-League has provided our youth players the chance to participate at a competitive level which is usually not offered in the summer.  These young players now have the opportunity to develop their skills year round."  The progress made by Coquitlam Metro-Ford’s players is in part due to the high quality of competition offered in the Pacific Northwest division.

Coquitlam Metro-Ford, along with its coaches, players, and fans, has created a very supportive and exciting club atmosphere.  The club is pleased with its accomplishments this past season and hopes to only build on its successes for future seasons.
