Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club continued their second week of Super Y-League action hosting West Coast. Teams had a successful day at the Town Centre soccer fields. Coquitlam’s seven Y-League teams played to win five out of seven games with one tie and one loss.
Our U-14 boys have registered yet another three points. The final score was 7-1. Good start resulted in 2-0 lead after five minutes. The team relaxed and allowed the opponent to even up the play, which led to a goal for 2-1 score. It took the team a while to get back on track ending the first half at 4-1. Second half showed some great moments with total control in the rest of the game. Three more goals confirmed our strength in attacking soccer.
The U16 Boys Y-League drew the visiting West Coast Capitals team 1-1. What turned out to be a slow paced drawing out affair, the boys from CMF had a number of chances to win the game but were unable to do so. The Capitals opened the scoring in the 60th min, CMF responded swiftly with a tally of their own in the 68th minute from striker Stashan Coady. A great through ball from Austin Derksen, Coady was able to outrun the defender to quickly slot the ball home under a diving keeper. Not settling for a draw the CMF boys pushed forward for a winning but were unable to find it, they created a number of chances late in the game, and at times looked like the winner was coming but to no avail. Players that deserve special recognition for their play are striker Stashan Coady and defender Sam Coulter. Coady again came up with a tally for his team when they needed it most and was a thorn in the sides of the Capital defenders all day, he did extremely well keeping his team in possession and holding off defenders to keep the ball in attack. Coulter commanded his back four to perfection and seemed to be everywhere he stopped numerous scoring chances and was instrumental in starting attacks from the back. His tireless running and ability to read the play made for a frustrating afternoon for the Capitals forwards.
All teams are looking forward to a rematch on Saturday June 19 traveling to Victoria.
Saturday May 15, 2010
Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club opened their inaugural season in the Super Y-League at Town Centre. The club hosted Coastal FC on Saturday, May 15th and were away on Sunday May 16, 2010 against the Revolution FC. The club’s seven Y-League teams, who range from U13-U16 boys and girls, won eight out of the 13 matches.
The CMF U13 Boys began the new season with a 2-1 victory over Coastal, sparked by Ahmed Ramadan’s header in the second half. Ramadan crashed in Kyle Jones’ free kick to give Coquitlam a temporary 2 goal lead. In the second match this squad wasn’t as dominant, falling 3-1 to Revolution. Dylan McCrindle put Coquitlam ahead at the break, but the Surrey rival responded with 3 unanswered goals over the last half.
The U14 Boys appear in fine form. They posted a pair of shutouts besting Coastal 5-0 and Revolution 6-0 in the first weekend of action. In the opener Coquitlam took lead on an own goal followed up a pair by Josh Brown and singles by Fletiche Hutchinson and Justine Virk. Their second game was much like their first, with the boys grabbing a lead and moving from there. The Surrey based Revolution did put up some resistance in the early going before Brown opened the scoring with his first two. Completing the offense were Giordano Baldonero, Curtis Ogilvie, Mitchel Popadynetz and Saman Purewal.
U15 boys despite some new faces and numerous changes, the CMF U15 Boys side is expecting to build on last year’s success. After some adjustment the effort rewarded Sunday in a 7-0 triumph over Revolution. Jorge Brizuela and Adam Jones set the tone two goals apiece, while Lucas Krivak, Jun Lee and James Najman chipped in singles. In its first game Coquitlam got three second half markers from Razvan Gheorghe, in a 3-0 victory over Coastal FC.
In a hard fought, scrappy battle the CMF U16 boys put together enough moment of brilliance to top the Coastal 3-1. Striker, Stashan Coady opening the scoring converting a great set up from Graeme Meers. A lot of hard work and creative pressure resulted a 2-0 lead off of an own goal. Ten minutes into the second half Sam Coulter headed home the clubs third tally. Also turning in strong performances were Cole Almond, Austin Derksen.
The Under 13 Girls started their season with a strong performance on Saturday against Coastal wining 2-0. There were many strong individual performances in this game and goal scorers were Juliana Manella and Jessica Fillipelli. On Sunday the Under 13 Girls tied 0-0 with Revolution. Sierra Lomardesse recorded both of the shut-outs and the back-line in both games was solid.
The U14 girls began their first game of the season well carrying the play in the first half but could not find the back of the net. The back line anchored by Sophia Fabbro limited Coastal's chances towards goal. Emma Caine, began to generate some attack down the left side into the 2nd half. In the 50th minute she ended an impressive run by beating the right back wide and slicing a pin-point pass to striker, Dana Townsend who had found a seam in the crowded area. Townsend clinically one timed the ball low beyond the diving keeper. The CMF girls bent and eventually broke 10 minutes from time giving up a tying goal. Mikela Fong and Jamie Culpo turned in a fine performances for CMF. In their second game of the weekend Surrey struck in the first minute off a corner. The 2nd half was another story as our girls took the game to the Argentine jerseys. Sydney Weeks, having an outstanding game at right back, stepped into a ball deep into Revolution territory sending it to back post from 35 yards. Dana Townsend's run at goal held the keeper on her line just long enough that when she finally made a stab at the ball it was out of reach. It came off her fingertips kindly to Arianna Johnston cleaning up at the back post bringing the score level. CMF pressed hard for the winner but could not find it resulting in the second tie in as many days.
The CMF U16 girls were up to task in the double header opening weekend. Playing Coastal to a 0-0 stand still in the first game, then registered a 1-0 win over Revolution in the second. The lone goal came off the foot of Gina Fabbro, while goalkeepers Lauren Askew and Emily Wilson were terrific in tandem each recording a shutout. Setting the tempo at midfield were Dayn McGregor and Trietse Reading, while Lena Soutar was rock solid on the back line.
